State Championship Fencing


Three Rivers Fencing hosted the State Championship Fencing Showcase at Hantime Sports last weekend. Seventy fencers from accross the state competed on Saturday and Sunday. Champions in epee, foil and sabre were crowned.

16 Royal HTVBC Asics Championship Results

The Hangtime Volleyball Club 16 Royal team traveled to Chicago June 12-14, 2009 to play in the Asics Championship Tournament giving the best showing of a HTVBC Club team to date.

14 Royal HTVBC-Asics Championship Results

68 14U teams from the Midwest traveled to the Asics Championship Tournament in Chicago June 12-14, 2009. Other than the 15-6 game on Friday, the 14U team was in every match. This was a first time experience for the majority of the team and they were not intimidated, playing against teams who had been playing longer.

High School Basketball Preview

Teams are shaking out the cobwebs and lacing up their sneakers! Basketball players from across the Great Lakes Bay Region are already planning for the 2009-10 high school season. Varsity and Junior Varsity level, girl's and boys' teams are playing in the June High School Basketball League at Hangtime Sports in Midland. 68 teams representing their schools will play double headers on multiple evenings through June 24, 2009. This is a great opportunity to preview what teams are looking like for next year and begin to size up the competition. Bay City, Midland, Saginaw, and the Thumb are all represented along with teams from as far north as Roscommon and Houghton Lake. Girls’ teams play on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Boys on Mondays and Wednesdays. There is no admission charge to view league games. Complete game schedules can be view at www.HangtimeSports.com.

Midland Fastbreak State Tournament Results








Midland Fastbreak Elite Basketball was represented by two teams at the State Amateur Athletic Union Tournament June 5-7. Each team finished in third place, a qualifying finish for the National AAU Tournament. Midland Fastbreak Basketball is sponsored by Hangtime Sports in Midland.

In pool play the 14U team defeated Capital City Express 68-52 (Tori Jankoska 33pts, Jen Jarema 17pts), Grand Rapids Spirit 54-40 (Jankoska 16pts, Jarerma 13pts, Maura McAfee 10pts) and North Oakland Wolfpack 66-34 (Jankoska 16, Tiarra Carter 16, Paige Raes 14). Bracket play saw them beat Michigan Cagers 52-48 (McAfee 21, Jankoska 13, Jarema 11) and Michigan Monarchs 62-50 (Jankoska 19, Jarema 16, Carter 10). This was the first time all tournament they were down at halftime but outscored them 37-21 in the second half and had a great defensive effort to limit second chance points from offensive rebounds and gave up no easy baskets.In semifinal play lost to Michigan Pistons 49-51 (Jankoska 15, Jarema 13, Raes 9. With less than 40 seconds on the clock and down by 1 pt the Fastbreak ran the clock down and Jankoska hit a 18 foot jumper to put us up by 1 with less than 7 seconds left. The Pistons inbounded the ball, made a long downcourt pass and hit a well-defended deep 3 pointer to give them the 2 point win.The consolation game saw Fastbreak handily defeat Grand Rapids Spirit 53-28 (Jankoska 11, Jarema 10). The Fastbreak came out strong in the first half to take a 21-3 lead allowing only 3 FT by the Spirit and carried that energy through the second half to easily win Third Place in the state. Coach Peterson’s 16U team also played an outstanding series. In pool play they beat Michigan Patriots 71-56 (Becca Mills 16, Deb Hoekstra 16, Jessica Peatross 13 pts) and Waterford Wave 57-31 (Jessica Peatross 11, Jessica Jarema 10, Allie Wylie 9). In bracket play they handily beat Lady Sun Devils 60-34 (Allie Wylie 21 pts, Becca Mills 12, Deb Hoekstra 11) and Michigan Rage 53-35 (Jessica Peatross 13 pts, Becca Mills 12, Jessi Franz 8). Midland Fastbreak lost to Michigan Monarchs 64-53 (Becca Mills 19 points, Deb Hoekstra 19 points), giving them a third place finish. Team members are: Kelly Dineen, Becca Mills, Jessica Jarema, Nicole Peterson, Emma Holmi, Kayla Engelhard, Deborah Hoekstra, Jessica Peatross, Aleigha Wylie, Jessi Franz. They are coached by Ron Peterson and Loomis Peatross.

HTVBC Results

The Hangtime Volleyball Club sent six teams to the Michigan Junior Volleyball Association Tournament held at various locations in Grand Rapids last weekend. Over 250 teams from across Michigan competed. Results are as follows:

Hangtime 13U finished in 3rd place in the Gold Division
Hangtime 14U Royal finished in 3rd place in the Silver Division
Hangtime 14U Navy finished in 5th place in the Gold Division
Hangtime 14U Red finished in 3rd place in the Bronze Division
Hangtime 16U Navy finished in 3rd place in the Bronze Division
Hangtime 18U took 1st place in the Silver Division
